Ball Gowns and Ball Dresses

Ball gowns, ballgowns or formal gowns are a special type of formal evening dress worn to an evening event or a formal party. They come in a wide variety of styles such as knee-length, tea length, floor length, A-line, empire line, flared, floor-shaping, full or half sleeves, and short sleeves, as well as matching belts or jewelry sets. Many versions are shorter, at least for the bridesmaids or the wedding itself, with some up to knee length and some to knee length. These dresses are often made of silk, satin, velvet or any other fabric, but many times they are made of sheer fabrics that do not have any formality, and have a very modern appearance.

Most formal dresses are cut at the hip with a high neckline, exposing arms and a short detachable veil. A high neckline with a train is more formal and tends to make the bride appear taller. It is common for the skirt to extend from just above the knee to a little more than knee length, which adds to the slimming effect. This gives the town a great, elegant look, and is also a popular style. Most of the time, the bodice has a corset. However, some styles, such as the A-line, a flared dress, and empire line, feature no waist.

In contrast, a wedding is a much more traditional type dress. It usually consists of a long wedding dress with a long train that falls just below the bust line. The hemline is slightly less. The bridesmaids are often dressed in something like a cocktail dress, but there may be occasions where it is the bride who chooses to wear her wedding dress, such as an anniversary party. This is a wonderful way to highlight her best features without being too obvious, and also is a traditional style that is not always available for weddings. Some brides opt for this style simply because it is more timeless and allows the bride to express herself through the dress.
