Dressing Up Like a Clown With Tall Dresses
A long gown is usually a semi-formal garment worn mostly by ladies or women consisting of an empire-waisted skirt and an optional bodice that hang over the hips. It consists of an under-skirt with a waistline and a waistband with a belt that extends around the waist. A long dress can also be any kind of semi-formal garment having a waistband of any length and is either casual or formal. In fact, there are many ways to wear a long gown in different settings.
Long dresses are always a great choice for formal and traditional evening occasions like weddings, anniversaries, etc. However, depending on the occasion, a long gown may not work well if you are to wear it on a beach party. A good alternative would be to wear an all-over bathing suit with a short hemline and a simple cut or a short sleeveless dress. A long dress would not be an appropriate choice for a bridal shower, prom, a bridal shower party at home, and a bridal shower at a public beach. A longer dress may be worn during the ceremony but it may be best avoided on a reception. Even then, shorter lengths can always be worn during the reception. The same goes for wedding ceremonies where shorter length is more appropriate.
There are some times when a shorter length of dress, especially for formal affairs, is still appropriate. These occasions include proms, office parties, graduation events, etc. Even though you may consider yourself too formal for a prom, a longer dress can easily be worn in a graduation event as long as you are not going to be doing the graduation ceremony in your parents’ home. Similarly, long gowns can be worn at an office party where you do not want to be a guest at the table while others wear their customary business suits. When choosing a dress, you must take into account your height, the season, the time of day, the occasion, and the kind of dress code applicable at the venue. This will ensure you don’t go overboard and end up with a dress that makes you look like a clown!
